Workshop of writing and creativity based on the book “How to see invisible things” | Isabel Minhós
Date: November 09 / 4pm - 6pm
Price per person: 50€
Location: Depozito shop
Address: Rua Nova do Desterro, 21, Lisbon
About the workshop: In the book “How to see invisible things” (portuguese title: Como ver coisas invisíveis) we observe the various stages of a creative process; we go out into the world, in search of aspects that can influence creativity; we shine the spotlight on science, art and school; and we challenge readers with stories and experiences inspired by scientists, artists and other people with a lot of imagination.
"What is it, where does it come from? And what is imagination for, after all? Is imagination the cousin of creativity? Where does each one take us? On the other hand, can creativity be learned? Can it be inherited? How can we distinguish a good idea from a bad one? And what to do when there are no ideas?"
In this workshop we will talk about some of the aspects covered in the book “How to See Invisible Things” and we will develop practical exercises, almost always based on writing, in the sense of research and reflection on our own creative processes.
About Isabel Minhós: Born in Lisbon in 1974, the year of the April 25th Revolution. As a child, she wanted to be a journalist, archaeologist, or pediatrician. She didn’t become any of the three, but she loves what she does. “For me, writing is like digging: you always find something, sometimes worms, sometimes water, stones, roots, tunnels... a lost shoe. I like writing because I almost always find unexpected things. I like reading for the same reason: someone dug, dug, dug, and found something that they showed through words.” She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, worked as a creative in children's communication, and later, with a group of friends, founded the publishing house Planeta Tangerina. Some of the books she wrote have been recognized with awards or by institutions related to children's literature: White Ravens Catalogue, Andersen Award, Banco del Libro, Portuguese Society of Authors (2015), Gustav-Heinemann Friedenspreis (2017), Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis (2017). In 2022 and 2023, she was nominated for the ALMA – Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
