Synopsis of the Editor: "The artist Joana Vasconcelos (1971) explores mythologies and Iconographies of gender issues to inquire, class and national identity. In his works, mostly sculptures, recreates objects and familiar images, regularly using artisan techniques and materials as part of your creative process. The practice reflects the dialectic between classical and popular culture, private and public spheres, domestic and political tradition and modernity. Joana Vasconcelos represents Portugal at the 55th International Art Exhibition-la Biennale di Venezia (2013) with an ambitious project, Trafaria Beach, which consists of the transformation of a ferry in a floating Pavilion as a work. This book documents the project since their investigation until its public performance, as well as his intellectual framework, through sequences of images and essays of the Commissioner and to Portuguese investigators."
