"The carnation that symbolizes the day of the end of the dictatorship in Portugal!
The carnation is considered the oldest ornamental plant in cultivation in the world, as Ovid, the Roman poet, described its beauty in the early times of our era. This plant can reach up to 90 cm in height and its flowers are pollinated by butterflies, due to the shape of its flowers, which are inaccessible to other pollinators. Regarding its cultivation, it prefers soils with a sandy texture, rich in organic matter, warm and well-drained. It needs regular watering, avoiding excess water and drought situations. The location must have good sun exposure, although it can also grow in places with some shade, and must have good ventilation conditions. Most ant species are highly repelled by cloves, so this plant helps in places where they are in high populations."
