Paulo-Guilherme was an architect, filmmaker, writer, painter, illustrator, designer of books, interiors, stamps, coins and owner and decorator of nightclubs. It is without doubt a joyful modernity that we find again in Paulo-Guilherme, a whole sphere of aesthetic and technical references, employed with virtuosity yet without the constraint of a programme, with humour and elegance yet free from the corrosive irony and pastiche of post-modernism. This is not a cold modernism, but a personal and emotive application, at a point of equilibrium between international tendencies and a personal aesthetic.

D is a collection devoted to Portuguese designers from various different generations. Artists in several disciplines, from communication to objects, fashion to graphic arts, and from advertising to illustration. In essence they are visual monographs that aim to provide an Initial encounter with the rich yet relatively unexamined history of Portuguese design, highlighting its excellence and significance for the present and future of design teaching and practice.
