A Vida Portuguesa is proud to sell the famous Chitas de Alcobaça (Alcobaça Chintz) by meter, in partnership with Armazém dos Linhos, a historic brand dedicated to the preservation, production, and trade of fabrics since 1905. Like British chintz, Portuguese chintz was inspired by Indian prints that arrived in Europe from the 16th century onwards, developing a history full of floral motifs and, almost always, an exotic touch. The exact origin of Chitas de Alcobaça remains a mystery, but it is certain that in the 18th century, some pioneering experiments were born at the "Royal Cotton Textile Factory of Alcobaça". The industrial era brought prosperity to the factory, supplying fabrics throughout the country. Thus, Chitas de Alcobaça became a symbol of Portuguese identity, deeply rooted in the collective imagination.

Armazém dos Linhos was embraced in 2011 by two sisters, architects and former clients, driven by the mission of preserving traditionally Portuguese patterns, returning them to the public with the same historical value, but with new possibilities. Heirs to a rich and very diverse cultural heritage, they seek to work within a local and circular logic.
