Cynara cardunculus

Ornamental, medicinal and for food. It's a perennial plant that can reach a height of 1.50 m and that has beautiful big leaves of a silvery-grey colour. From May to July it produces fantastic clumps of a violet-blue-colour highly prized by pollinators. The stamens have been traditionally used as curd in the manufacture of cheese. A young plant can be consumed much the same as an artichoke. Prefers places exposed to the sun. Adapts to different types of soil and does not require frequent watering. Essential in Mediterranean gardens.
