About the workshop: Did you know that 'Vilhões' (a type of embroidery) was almost disappearing? This more vibrant and figurative side of Madeira Embroidery is a rare heritage that Bailha has rescued from oblivion. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn the techniques that generations of embroiderers have passed down orally. We will transform a handkerchief, where you can embroider and color your own 'Vilhões', with the help of embroiderer Helena da Silva and founder David Oliveira. Join the community of over 80 people who have already learned this technique, becoming part of the revitalization of the art of Madeira Embroidery.

About Bailha: Bailha was founded in 2021 by David Oliveira, inspired by the legacy of his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmothers, all embroiderers. With Helena da Silva (David's mother), Sara Faria and Dorina Pita, responsibly paid embroiderers, Bailha preserves this know-how, challenging the embroidery industry that relies on the invisibility of women's work. We design unique pieces and embroidery experiences, ensuring the continuity of know-how. Each piece reflects how we inhabit the island, embroidering its flora, landscapes, and memories. Bailha means moving the body to the sound of music; it is movement, inviting us to create a future where handwork has value, where tradition and innovation dance together.

Confirmation of attendance must be sent by email up to 2 days prior to the workshop, along with proof of participation.

If the workshop does not take place, a refund will be issued using the same payment method.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Participants who, for any reason, are unable to attend the workshop and wish to request a refund must notify us of their cancellation at least 10 days prior to the workshop date.
