125th birthday

Fábrica S.to António was established in 1893 by Francisco Roque Gomes da Silva. On that year began, in a small, central street of Funchal, Madeira, the production of cookies and crackers with a clear English inspiration, plus homemade candy, marmelade, and more. These novelties earned a following and became a mainstay – and continue to be one. Sugar-covered almonds are still mandatory on Easter, honey cake is indispensable on Christmas. To celebrate its 125th birthday, the brand released replicas of its distinctive original cookie tins, which are now for sale at A Vida Portuguesa stores. Many people said they missed the tins. That's because Fábrica S.to António didn't just conquer Madeiran tastes, but also their hearts.
