The past has never had a better future
Jorge Colombo began drawing as a child in the 1960s with Viarco crayons; that is why the Viarco picture is his favorite in the series. These drawings, however, were created on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil (programmed to have a texture resembling a vintage crayon). These are A Vida Portuguesa classics seen through a new gaze.
Colombo is one of Portugal's best known illustrators worldwide. He is the author of the “The New Yorker” magazine's first cover drawn with a smartphone. He lives in the United States since 1989, where his work has been regularly featured on the front covers of the “The New Yorker” or the Portuguese edition of “Granta” magazine. He has previously worked numerous times with A Vida Portuguesa, mainly as a graphic designer.
