Coffee A Brasileira

A Brasileira, in Chiado, is the most famous of all coffee houses in Lisbon. But in 1905, when it first opened, it was a simple retailer, selling "the genuine coffee from Minas Gerais in Brazil" in bulk, and offered a cup of the aromatic drink to all its customers. The coffee house was created in 1908, after a major refurbishment, and soon became a meeting point for journalists, writers and artists. Poet Fernando Pessoa, one of its most loyal and prominent customers, was immortalised with a bronze statue that still sits by an outdoor table.
