Gorreana Tea

This extremely rare European tea grows on the island of S. Miguel, in the Azores, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Production took off in 1878 under the supervision of two specially hired Chinese experts from Macau. The factory is the oldest in Europe still in operation and has been run by the same family for five generations now. It is well worth a visit, as it encapsulates the dedication and workmanship devoted to the product. With an 80 acres plantation, it produces around 40 tons of black and green tea – organic, with intense aroma, and the particularity of not knowing herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, coloring or preservatives, thanks to the island's temperamental climate, as well as the island's acidic, volcanic soil.
